Ok ok, I tried the whole ‘click bait’ headline. In celebration of some people eating too much turkey and giving thanks in a time that is only specified for Canadians because we celebrate the harvest and not the American pilgrims (I hope?), it also coincides with a perfect time for first year college and university students to come to their childhood home and end their high school/summer romances because drinking straight vodka out of water bottles and making out with strangers is more appealing than being monogamous when you’re barely 20.
SPEAKING OF WHICH, I wrote a song which harkens back to this sentiment called ‘Let’s Break Up Again’ - because breaking up with someone definitively when you’re young and indecisive is difficult…at least it was for me. An ode to my most lizard brain/short term thinking/self absorbed emotional destruction. We just released this song as our new single and also released a delightfully unhinged video which you can watch here.
I probably should have sent this out BEFORE we released the video so that you, the person who so kindly gave up your email address, would get a ‘reward’ by getting ‘inside intel’ or whatever, and I will do my best to be more prepared next time there is big secret news. In any case, I WILL share that the concept of this video was inspired by Nirvana’s video for ‘Sliver’. My sweater may or may not be a dead giveaway. I’ll also share that something terrible has happened to my guitar that is in this video and I’m not quite ready yet to talk about that but if you know me personally then maybe I’ll tell you.
I’ll also take a moment to say holy fuck, our album release party at the Horseshoe Tavern was a fucking delight, and can you tell I realized I was keeping swears out of this thing til now and now I’m fucking overcompensating? Thanks to everyone who made that shindig a whole big thing. We feel fueled and prepared now to go tour places where nobody knows us and acts confused/indifferent/overwhelmed when we hit the stage (I’m so optimistic!!). Seriously though, i love most aspects of touring, and i’m just enjoying the opporunity to be negative in long form again instead of the constant ‘STOKED!’ ‘SO EXCITED!’ superlatives that seem completely necessary in short form social media for musicians.
So thanks if you have read this far. I’ll leave you with a couple of photos because we have to maintain some form of facial recognition.
Here’s a screen shot from the ‘Let’s Break Up Again’ video:
